Happy Bosses Day, Shirley Lyons!

Last month, our wonderful boss Shirley Lyons was installed as the President of the Society of American Florists (SAF), a trade association representing the U.S. floral industry that has been around for 130 years. Not only is she their first woman president, she is also the first Oregonian to serve. What an accomplishment! And what an example to women! We are so proud of her!

Shirley’s love for her community and desire to touch lives and make everyday things just that much more special is  evident in the community contests and events Dandelions hosts, and the employees at Dandelions get to benefit from this great-heartedness up close. We get the everyday view of Shirley that not everyone sees, and for this Bosses Day, we wanted her to catch a glimpse of how we see her, a sense of who she is to us. Each staff-member at Dandelions picked a word or two to describe Shirley, so she’d know how special she is to us:

Prefontaine Classic 2012

On Saturday, June 2nd, 2012, the 37th annual Prefontaine Classic Track and Field meet will be held at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Originally named the Hayward Field Restoration Race, this meet adopted the name “Pre Classic” in honor and remembrance of the legendary Steve Prefontaine, or “Pre,” who passed away one week before the race in 1975.  At the time of his death, Pre was the best distance runner in the US.

Today, the Pre Classic attracts the top athletes from all over the world to compete in this premier meet.

Dandelions Flowers is so proud to garnish the victory laps of these incredibly talented athletes. Since 2008, we have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this great event in Track Town, USA!

UO Named Grand Marshal of the Portland Rose Parade

Yesterday the Oregon Ducks football team was named as the Grand Marshal of the 2011 Grand Floral Parade for this year’s Portland Rose Festival. Dandelions created 2 large bouquets of roses (1 yellow, 1 red) to present to UO President Richard Lariviere and the Oregon Duck mascot as the announcement was made by Rose Festival Board members.

“Both our organizations have been working for a hundred years to bring positive recognition to Oregon,” 2011 Portland Rose Festival Foundation President Sue Bunday said. There will even be a special University of Oregon section of seating at the parade June 11.

Congratulations to our DUCKS!!!

Flowers congratulate new sorority members

It is so much fun being in a college town! It’s initiation week for many of the sororities on the University of Oregon campus and Dandelions has been busy making congratulations arrangements for new members. The friends and families who have been placing their orders are SO proud of their girls and it has been fun to be a small part of this big day for them.

The Delta Gamma initiation was on Wednesday and we had a van filled to the brim with flowers just for them from their friends and family! Lots of ivory roses since that is the Delta Gamma color. Today is another big flower delivery day with lots of arrangements going to Alpha Phi in colors of bordeaux and silver. There were also a handful of sunny yellow arrangements…GO DUCKS!

ESPN Game Day comes to Dandelions

Thursday is the Civil War between Rose Bowl hopefuls University of Oregon and Oregon State University. We have been inundated with requests for roses and flowers for fans to show their support at the home and office. KEZI and KMTR came by on Monday to film the fun! Tomorrow, ESPN Game Day will be stopping by to put their spotlight on the Civil War craze! We encourage fans from both teams to stop by around 2:30 when they start filming to support their team and grab some roses! You may even score an interview with the crew!

We have been offering a dozen roses in yellow, orange, or a mix of both for only $39.99 arranged. This deal has been so popular that today we brought in hundreds of more roses to meet the demand. We live in a great city with huge team spirit!
