Colorful August Wedding

Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of setting up the wedding for Jessica Jones out at Deep Woods Events in Elmira, OR. Even though they lost a few trees during the winter wind storms, Deep Woods is still a woodland delight. Owner, Karol, has created a spectacular setting for a wedding during any season. The outdoor area is landscaped with flowers and they have recently built a large, indoor venue which allows them to host weddings and events any month of the year.

The inspiration for Jessica’s flowers came from a picture of flowers she picked up at the farmers market. Lots of color was the goal with a natural, casual feel. I wanted to incorporate seasonal blossoms throughout the decor and 75% of the flowers were grown locally. Instead of traditional greenery I used rosemary, grasses, oak and maple branches. Some of the other local flowers included zinnias, dahlias, lavender, and sunflowers.

In order to use time efficiently, I will often design arch pieces ahead of time and attach on site but I felt that I needed to design the entire pergola wedding flowers on site. The beams in the pergola would have been in the way and I wanted the design to appear as one fluid design. The pergola there is quite large (12’7″ wide and about 9′ tall).

The final product

The centerpieces were casual mixtures of the same flowers in large 6x6x6 cubes that Karol at Deep Woods wrapped in burlap and ribbon. These are extremely large openings but the use of large blooms like blue hydrangea, zinnias, sunflowers and dahlias helped create a full look. Each of these sat on a wood stump and the tables were preset with canned jam as wedding favors. So sweet! As I left the venue at 1:00 there was thunder and lightning in the sky and it looked ominous for the 3:30 ceremony but I think the rain held off for the most part.

This amazing tan orchid with pink veins looked amazing in this bouquet

An orange and pink bridal bouquet for a “Hawaiian” theme wedding

Although it was a Hawaiian themed wedding, the bride wanted more traditional flowers so we brought in white freesia that were reminiscent of plumeria

These unique tan and pink orchids brought a touch of tropical

The starting bouquet created in shades of green including hydrangea, green trick carnations, sedum, rosemary, poppy pods, green chrysanthemums, ti leaves and a moss orb.

The light green Mega Beaded wire intertwined in this bouquet added a touch of modernity for the bride who likes a little something different

Adding in more natural elements like the curly willow, eucalyptus pods and seed pods turned the green bouquet into a natural and earthy statement.

Stem wrap treatment using 2 shades of bullion wire

Three shades of carnations combined to make this bridesmaid’s bouquet. Grouping the colors together keeps it from looking like polka-dots

A great way to differentiate a bridal or maid of honor bouquet is to add a touch of glam with jewels or crystals

I love this Diamond Wrap that can be used on a stem wrap, around vases or applied to corsages & boutonnieres
