Color Trends for 2016

So I know we are well under way for 2016 but in case you are still trying to determine what’s hot for color trends this year, we have a 4 part blog that breaks down some general color trends as described by Bill and Karen Schaffer at the Society of American Florists convention and touch on the interesting selection of 2 colors by Pantone for their color of the year. Each part of the series will showcase a color theme and how that can be incorporated into your wedding, party, event or home.

Trends are just that: trends. It doesn’t mean that these are the only color combos you will see throughout the year but that they have found a home in the hearts of fashion designers, brides, interior decorators, florists and anyone else who works with color a lot. Parts of a theme can be utilized without going “all in”. They will give you an idea, however, of how to create a cohesive, finished and well-thought-out look.

Let’s start with Lavish:

Lavish Color Palette

Flowers (clockwise from top right): yellow billy balls, ranunculus, protea, mixed flower arrangement, pink larkspur, purple kale, pink lisianthus, burgundy carnation

  • colors: rhubarb, crimson, purple potion, orchid haze, silver cloud, delicate pink, peach parfait, gold
  • burgundy reds, soft peaches, blush tones
  • rich, lush containers
  • weathered, antique and wood

TEXTURE TEXTURE TEXTURE! Lavish is all about texture; extremely romantic with strong garden influences. Loosely grouped flowers in large containers or accented with small clusters of flowers give this look a soft and elegant feel that befits a variety of settings: rustic, winery, hotel or a sophisticated urban venue. Dramatic candelabras, gold urns, velvet and dupioni silk bring instant richness to any event- add in draping eucalyptus, fluffy dahlias or hydrangeas and pepperberries and you have the perfect combination for Lavish.
