Flower Trends: Modern Flowers

Bye, bye baby’s breath Big, bunches of flowers are passé. Instead, choose deceptively simple modern floral arrangements for the urban lifestyle.

Minimalism has gone mainstream.

It’s been growing steadily from roots in traditional ikebana, the Japanese floral art with meticulously structured designs in which every leaf, branch and petal is symbolic and based on the principle of three mountains.

Today’s modern designs are more about aesthetics, though, than symbolism. Architecture, interior design, and fashion have moved towards edgier and simpler concepts.

These designs are more artwork than just simply adding flowers together.  They are often sculpture that only appear to be simple yet require a trained eye and design technique. Unique angles, groupings, texture & intricate combinations are behind the movement towards these arrangements.

Tropical or unique flowers are often featured in modern designs but everyday & common flowers can be utilized in this style, too. The newer “Green Trick” carnation is right at home in a funky, edgy style. Other traditional flower choices can be made new and fresh by grouping them or combining them with interesting foliages.

So next time you place an order BE BRAVE and try something different. We’re pretty sure you’ll like it!

Flower Astrology: Virgo Horoscope August 23-September 23

Zodiac Sign: With a penchant for detail, Virgos are often known for their meticulous and diligent personalities. And while people born under this zodiac sign are frequently modest and shy, underneath their unassuming, reserved exteriors, there’s a wise and witty side as well, with a keen understanding of the people around them.

Birth Sign Flower: Surprise this otherwise practical, intellectual and serious earth sign with a flower arrangement that provokes their more lighthearted side. Gerbera daisies with their wildflower beauty, star-shaped flowers and lush texture – not to mention their legendary enchanted qualities – will incite a Virgo’s imagination and coax their fun-loving side.

Rager-Pappel Wedding: July 30, 2011

Since Matt from Matt Emrich Photography provided us with all of these beautiful pictures from the Rager-Pappel wedding I decided to make it its own post! Chelsea and Jim are such a fun couple and Matt did an amazing job of capturing their personalities and spirit on their wedding day!

Chelsea worked her entire wedding around the polka dot theme she fell in love with. We used black/white polka dot ribbon for the stem wrap for all of the bouquets as well as the corsages & mini gerb boutonnieres.  Her invitations featured hot pink gerbera daisies and we carried those throughout the entire wedding decoration.

The bridal bouquet was made of white Polar Star roses, Stargazer Lilies, and 3 shades of gerbera daisies. Chelsea wanted it “huge”…so we made it big. The bridesmaids carried bouquets made of different shades of pink gerbera daisies.

Here is Jim with his pink mini gerb boutonniere. I added black beaded wire to tie in with the polka dot theme. (The guys even wore hot pink shoe laces and the bridesmaids had polka dot shoe laces!!) Even the 2 dogs had flower collars!

Originally Chelsea planned on DIY reception centerpieces but the wind proved to be a bit of a challenge so I added the 3 tones of pink gerbera daisies to the clear rectangular vases with clear stones. These were put on mirrored tiles which enlarges the look of the centerpiece. The head table also held tiered vases with pink gerbs.

Another last minute addition was a few stems of flowers on the gazebo where the ceremony took place. It added a bit of color to the all-white gazebo.

We placed tall glass cylinders in the reception with pink and white arrangements that “floated” on top.

Eugene Weddings: July 27-31

Another week was packed with weddings! We had a total of 5 weddings over the course of the week including a ceremony on both Wednesday and Friday and each wedding had its own, unique look. I made 2 trips out to the gorgeous Whisper N Oaks outside of Junction City where I was very impressed with the grounds. I had never been out there before and it far exceeded my expectations! Here are some shots from last weeks weddings…
